This yoyo is in the “undersized” category. About the same as my Project. See picture above. According to another place these are the stats comparing the Project with the Stardust. I am comparing the Stardust with the Project because of two reasons, both are my favorite yoyos at the moment, and they are relatively the same size.
Stardust Stats compared to the Project
- Width is about the same, Project is .7 mm more which is basically nothing.
- The diameter of the Stardust is larger than the Project by 2 mm, since the difference it so small, I can’t tell the difference.
- And the Gap is .24 mm bigger on the Project doesn’t make a difference.
- The Stardust is one gram heavier then the Project but feels lighter on the string.
Now on to the “real in your hands and not measurement” differences. The Stardust has a WAY different feel to it, a much more lighter and “bouncier” feel. It might be in my head, I don’t know. Look at the comparison picture between the Project and the Stardust; the Project is more angular while the Stardust has curves. The rims of the Project are straight while the Stardust is curved. The inner part (part that’s not the rim but not near the bearing, the middle part) is straight on both yoyo. The Project has projection profiling though. On to the inside... the Stardust has a huge post while the Project has nothing other than the nut. I still say the Project looks cooler here. It’s basically the same otherwise. No Inner ring to grind on, and rims are flat on the outer part.
Machining. The Stardust is very nice in this aspect (well all metals are...) Not sure if this is a bad thing or not, but I can still feel the machining marks, like when you run your fingers down on some sides, you can feel tiny bumps that are like a tingly feeling, I love running my nails down and up it. Anodization is flawless no doubt about that. I have run my fingers up and down it a TON of times with no problems what so ever. Tons of grinds (well get back to this...) and the anodization doesn’t wear off. Doesn’t have the IRG ( Yes even though it doesn’t have an IRG rim, you can still do it you just have to put it at an angle) mark like the Skyline or Trainwreck did. I pullstart yoyos a lot so I notice if it has marks. (not hubstack or matador pullstarts. I put my thumb and middle finger on the IRG part and pull, ripstart yay) Only thing is that the machining is that at the very ends of the yoyo on the pole, it has a hole. I’m not sure what it is but I think it’s where they held the yoyo while machining. I don’t think of this as a bad thing because both sides have this.
Grinds. If you want this yoyo for the grinds get another yoyo. This yoyo is just not good for grinds. I have tried grinding inside my home with cleaned hands and AC on until I’m even shivering sometimes. Grinds are OK in theses conditions but once you step outside worse grinds ever. Don’t even try to palm grind it. If only this were beadblasted. I don’t grind a lot so I’m okay with it.
Response and area. The response area can take silicone if it wants to, but I choose to put stickers. The stock pad is alright but one of them is too thick and made it responsive. So I ripped them both out and replaced them with THICK/LARGE Ghost pads. Perfect. Low response and tight binds. I can’t wait until I try iPads with this yoyo. Machining it great in this area I like the fast that the Bearing doesn’t sit in there tight as a YYF or YYJ would. I hate having to get pliers and pulling them out and have a risk of scratching the beautiful anodization. The axle is attached to one side which I don’t like at all because you can’t tune it. But in the case of the Stardust, they already tuned it to perfection so I’m alright with that.
Looks dirty but it's not...
Aesthetics. One of my more beautiful yoyos. I can’t wait till the Ywet comes out so I can have a matching pair. Absolutely stunning color, it just “pops” right into your eyes.
My setup. I have it set up with 2 THICK/LARGE Ghost pads and plan to put iPads once these wear out. But for now, they give an unresponsive play and TIGHT binds. For the bearing I put a 10 ball in there. I love bearings that last long so my 2 favourites are KK and 10 Ball bearings. I use flats for Silicone yoyos and KK for Pads. My 10 ball is a broken in one. Totally silent and I love that. Only thing is it spins so long that sometimes I don’t notice that it has only been a few seconds after a throw and it whips right back to my hands. Right now I have it setup with THICK/ROUGH N-Threads. Perfect.
Other notes. This thing has a lot of rim weight nor extreme but enough to spin for a very long time. More than the Project for sure. The rim weight does NOT slow it down. Japan’s first company, 44Re:Creation and first yoyo, the Stardust. And I’m impressed. First yoyos are normally not very good but I must say, this is one of my yoyos that I will keep in my case as I have a rule that if I don’t play with the yoyo much I sell/trade it. I have no idea why but when it’s in your pocket it feels too big. Like it’s poking you. I don’t have this problem with the Project or Milk so it wouldn’t be a good carry in your pocket yoyo. Otherwise I would recommend this yoyo for anyone that likes undersized yoyos.
Hope you enjoyed my review. Sorry it’s so long though... maybe it’s because I haven’t written anything for school for so long or something, but it’s most likely that I love this yoyo so much. Please tell if there’s any room for improvements or anything in my review. Thanks. Oh and there isn’t much lighting outside so I had to use artificial lighting so the pictures aren’t the best.

Good review. I'm sure it'll help those who were on the fence about throwing down $120 on a yoyo they knew nothing about.
I'm glad that it's play matches it's good looks. Sounds like a very solid yoyo.

I'm interested.
Is it just me, or does it kind of look like a hitman?Theyo.com: The Final Frontier. To boldly troll where no troll has trolled before...

Nothing like it, it's just because the yoyo is shiny, the picture reflects a lot of it's self so it looks odd. But nothing like a hitman.

Id say the yo-yo is more of a stretched and flattened hitman more than anything... I personally don't like the shape at all, or the blankness of the towers.
Play is really, really really good. Like seriousily, a very good player. I tryed one at worlds, too bad I just don't really dig the colour or shape.
What are the holes at the nipples? I don't see anything in the pictures.
Good review.

Ah... sounded like you ment a hole going right through the yo-yo.
Most yo-yos have that, never just a smooth tip.

It reminds me most of a RoK. that's certainly what it plays like.

Trade it or sell it away. It does look good, i don't like how far the posts stick out, but its cool, different, and probably there for a good reason. Good review, nice pictures.

The Axle is pretty big so that's why the posts are big.
But seriously they aren't that big when compared to like the Luchador's or Pyro Light's Spikes.
