spyder, by spyy...
width - a hair over 1 5/8 in.
diameter - 'bout 1 15/16 in.
weight - 64 gms.
setup - konkave 5x11x5 bearin', slick 6 leash and stock pads.
i acquired my spyder in a trade (thanks, chris!), so i'm not sure if the packagin' is factory or not. the spyder comes shipped in a crushed, black semi velvet bag. along w/ the yo yo, comes spare response pads...and i'm pretty sure it comes stock w/ a flat bearin'. the 100% poly string it came w/ lasted me 'bout 1 day.
the spyder has a nice, tight, compact feel to it. imho, the pics on the boards dipict it well...as it does have a 'pyroish' profile. the spyder is slightly smaller in width, as compared to the mk2 or 3...though not as wide as the addict. and of course, the signature spyy 'manta ray death spine [1]' is forever ominous...makin' matador and top on tricks a little easier and more consistent.
i really liked the subtle graphics on the spyder. everythin' from the small spider to the serial number, is precise and clean. i really like the 'wyyc 2007' stamp as well...as it helps mark the point in time that my little spyder came into my life. the finish is very similar to the mk2 bbb coatin', and needs some time to 'break' in. grinds are instantly tremendous w/ the spyder, but string life is an issue initially.
imo, the overall profile of the spyder, is a new design for spyy. the mk and addict series had more of a consistent, logrithmic curve to their shape. in contrast, the spyder has more of a squarish profile. givin' the yo yo a really nice, small, comfy feel in hand...and resultin' in amazin' stability on the string (on a decent throw).
upon visual comparison, the spyder has the same gap size as its' mk and addict brothers. although it seems to play like it has a smaller gap. imho, i think that this may be contributed to the extended flat center profile of the yo yo. w/ a 100% poly string, the spyder was unresponsive...however, w/ a slick 6 leash, the responsive noticeably picked up. still an unresponsive yo yo overall...
the thumb grind ridge on the spyder has more of a wider, flatter area, than other spyy models. for me (and though i'm workin' on it, i still can't do thumb grinds), this subtle detail really helped to stabilize and center the yo yo. and the shape to weight distribution, really helps me keep my grinds straight and consistent.
the stock response is thick dif pads. though the recess seemed plenty deep enough to accept a silicone response...i did not feel the need to put in silicone. imho, dif pads compliment spyy yo yos beautifully. the bearin' seat on the spyder is not as pronounced as other spyy models, but still plenty long enough for the bearin' to snap onto.
imho, what the spyder has in common w/ other spyy models is consistent, vibration free, true rollin' play. at the same time, hats off to scuba steve for tryin' somethin' new. a smaller, faster yo yo, w/ unshakeable feel and solid performance. imo, another amazin' release from spyy...and a very, very worthy buy. thanks scuba steve!

cool i can't wait to get it... i'm jsut hoping for it to come to theyo (mike you will be getting em right?)
i also noticed something. the finish seems to be different on the yoyo (you can see it best on the 2nd pic, also in 3rd and 5th) the inner walls are of inner (lighter?) finish.. is this to stop string breaking? My feedback :http://yoyo.theyo.com/showthread.php?t=39338

it looks awesome, whats the price tag on one new?
someone mentioned that on another boardi also noticed something. the finish seems to be different on the yoyo (you can see it best on the 2nd pic, also in 3rd and 5th) the inner walls are of inner (lighter?) finish.. is this to stop string breaking?
And thats from the main man :) Would be a cool idea though, save having to endure wearing the surface in so it doesnt eat strings

I might look into this one, i did use to own an MKII radian, and i didnt like it what so ever, it would seem to like spin and was really light, like it was glideing. and the comback on it was weak so i got rid of it. but i do like pyros and if this things is really like a mini pyro then i will def look into it, hows it play ? like a MKII ?

appreciate everyone takin' a look and leavin' feedback. hmm...i'm really diggin' my spyder.
the finish is consistent all the way around. imho, i think initially, 100% poly strings may be the way to go. as they tend to last longer, and don't seem to snap unpredictably (as much). it doesn't eat string like my pyro 205 did when i first got it...but some wear and care time is needed.
and yeah, the comp. pics are an 888, motu, and pyro. i wish the pics turned out nicer, but my camera battery was dyin' on me at that point.
i'm really gettin' into the shape of the spyder. very much like a mini pyro, imho, but i'm not sayin' that it's a copied design. the guts, thumb grind ridge, size are all very different...i'm just tryin' to say they have a similar general profile.
i don't feel that the spyder plays like the mk2 at all. i have the mk2 and 3 (both of whom i love dearly), and i think the spyder is a whole 'nother feel. as far as spin time...i hear what your sayin'. some tunin' my be needed to get the mk2 to roll right, but the spyder does not need any shims. the set gap really helps in this area...and if even less response is needed, there's always silicone.
ohh...i've talked too much.

only beef with this hella awesome yoyo is that binds aren't that good.i have a silicone pad and kentaro in there.both brand new and this thing is hella unresponsive still.unresponsive as in where binds are loose.(not tug response)

Judging from the profile shot, that seems VERY unlikely.
The previous spyys Ive owned binded very, very tightly with only difs.

Hopefully someone will understand this question. Since everyone is comparing it to a pyro, does it have the uber stable, almost sluggish feel of the pyro? Or is it more of a speedy yoyo? I prefer faster yoyos, but this yoyo is really appealing to me, so I hope it plays fast.

I guess it kind of looks like a Pyro due to its diameter to width ratio etc., but it plays like a totally different machine. It most definitely plays like a smallish yoyo, therefore pretty nimble & snappy.
