Okay... i picked up one of these at nats, and i have to say, for 40 bucks, this was a good deal. O0
First Impression:
The yoyo shiped with 2 duncan pads inside it, a string, and 2 spare spacers.
The yoyo was hella responsive out of the box, but i took out the duncan pads and replaced them with one baz, then i cleaned the bearing.
it was pretty good. :)
Looks: (10/10 is like a pyro, radian would be 8/10)
The yoyo looked machine made and mass produced. it looked low quality. however, it looked cool. The yoyo shiped with scratches on it, and some scuffs. i got those off with my shirt. However, the small scratches stayed. the "annodization" is more like cheap brownish black paint. i accidentally scratched some off on the first day. after about 3 weeks of having one, all the annodization on one of the sides completely came off!!! argh. The text is paint, and it scratches off quite easily. C’mon Duncan, this is sad. Put some more love into the looks of your yoyos please!
Total: 4/10 :-\ :'(

Shape: (10/10 is preference)
I love the narrowness and this is my first Duncan. However, I am assuming the shape is the same as the fhz. Nuff said. I like it, but again, this is preference.
Total: 10/10 ;D O0
Playability/Response: (Radian is 10/10 because of smoothness)
The yoyo is quite responsive with one baz, needing a medium tug to get it up. (as in up to your waist/ belly) That was good. The yoyo had a tendency to snag when you slide it around, but in overall it’s real smooth and noiseless. It works perfectly for whips and lacs, and it was one fast yoyo. A bit too responsive for my taste, but oh well, it’s all preference. However, the binds are great. Sleep times are a little bit low, but oh well. Around 1 min 30 for me.
Beware: the yoyo has a tendency to come apart without Teflon tape.
Total: 8/10 O0
Grinds: (Pyro is 10/10, radian is 9/10, xconvict is 4/10)
The metal zero is just plain aluminum with a brushed finish, and it grinds for about 2 long seconds with or without gloves. I didn’t bother to mod it. It is very “frictiony” and doesn’t grind for long. It’s thumbgrinds cause the anno to come off, but it doesn’t matter. They are not that good.
Total:3/10 :-\
Overall: The Duncan Metal Zero is a great beginner-medium-lower advanced yoyo, as well as, I would say, a great modder fodder a.k.a modding yoyo. Also, it won’t crack like yoyojam yoyos do after a year. It is really durable, and is the equal to if not better than any of the yoyojam yoyos. It really isn’t much compared to the pyro, mkii radian, bape, miroc, gear, etc., but it is a great yoyo to add to your collection for 40 $.
Compared to my cleaned and lubed mkii:
5/10
Compared to my stock hitman:
10/10 O0
All in all: this isn’t really a yoyo I would use for my competitions, but this would be a great yoyo for beginning yoyoers (just use Duncan pads) and a great yoyoer for intermediates (just use 2 baz’s or dif’s). For real advanced play, get a mkii or gear or business instead. This yoyo is a great addition to your collection, but it’ won’t be anywhere near my main player.
Bottom Line: If you’re a beginner/intermediate, get this. If you’re advanced, get a gear.
This is probably the best yoyo I’ve seen that’s under 50 bucks. This can’t really be compared to an mkii, but it is a real steal for $40.
Bottom Line:
11/10 for $40 O0
6/10 compared to the mkii/pyro :-P

I was like you I first thought the paint was anodized on.But it not it is just a clear paint of some kind .I am thinking of taking it off and sending it to furph yo .com and have him anodize mine. Mine has a satin finish put on by the previous owner. I am using a dorothy bearing in mine it plays good but graby when doing skin the gerbil. I used Loctite color blue to fix the flying apart problem.

How would a cleaned bearing, 1 Baz-Pad and a satined body Metal Zero compare to a cleaned bearing, Hitman or X-convict with 2 shims, silicone o-rings and a satined body?

There's really no comparison. The YYJs are much better.

If you succeed in destroying someone's deeply entrenched beliefs using facts and logic, that person won't change his mind but will hate your guts forever.

Alright, here it is. The DuncanMetalFreehand Zero!
Woo.
First notes, I got this directly from Duncan after worlds. I was talking with Mike (As in duncan Mike) about my MFHZ problems, and he said he would send me a new one after worlds. (What a great guy!
)
In other words, I dont know if this was one of the ones at worlds that was sold, or if it was the fixed production version.
In any case, it plays hella good.

Questions I usually get about it is if it actually feels like a FHZ. Honestly, no.

The shape is similar, but it feels like a whole new shape to me. I like it.
Check out the guts.

The axle is very different this time around, its more of a dif-like design, but with a smaller axle to fit the duncan bearing.

You have to screw it in from the inside. I play my MFHZ with one silver and one teal spacer, one thin dif. No vibration at all, VERY smooth.
If you use a duncan sticker, It plays like a very smooth, responsive, metal yoyo. Its quite nice.
The metal on this thing is quite nice, actually. I could have sworn that they did something different with this one, because I remember the metal to feel cheaper than this. In any case, it grinds just fine; for all you "finish" people.
The recess is for flush pads. I love it.

Other notes..hmm..
You can fit FHZ caps into the sides of this thing. I dont think it was intentional, but it works, and works well. They wont fall out if properly installed, (use your thumb to push down flush with the edge; to get out, push down one side, and flick the other end out.) and it adds a bit more weight and has similar sounds to a FHMG, as far as the spinning goes.
Oh yeah, I had tightening problems with mine at worlds. It had stripping problems. I dont know if this was fixed, but I never tighten mine too much just to be safe.
Overall, I love this yoyo. I never liked to compare things to a scale, so if thats what you were looking for...well. Too bad, I guess.
Its a solid metal player, suitable for any collection.

Here's a photo of naked satin finished DMZ.As I thought it was just a clear color paint on the inside.I just chucked it up to my drill press and sanded away the paint. Now I just have to wait for email back from Furph Yo so I can send to him to anodized it.If not it sure looks better naked.

Also do you guys know what size the axle is and if it metric or standard thread for the DMZ?

i think it isn't really that great, but it's better than my hitman, (something is screwed up with my hm) and it rivals my convict. but compared to my mkii it's nothing.

Here the problem when the DMZ come out on the real world you will almost be able to buy two DMZ for the cost of one MK2 .So your comparing apple and oranges.

Having relieved FNG of his Metal Zero, I'm gonna have to say that I really like this yo-yo.
Why do people insist on comparing yo-yos? A Hitman is like a Hitman, and a Duncan Metal Zero is like a Duncan Metal Zero.
I'm sure that Duncan didn't look at the market, set their sites on the MKII and say: "Let's kick that yo-yo's ***". They probably just wanted to upset the community a little, and show that a nice, metal yo-yo, can be had for less. I believe they did a good job at that.

I want to see someone mod a top on hub onto one of these. It would make the yoyo realy cool IMO. Ill buy one as soon as there available but It seems to not be a great yoyo but a metal for 40 that is even decent is something that no other company can do it seems so go duncan! I will be more impressed when they offer the FH0 with a recessed option on it instead of needing to have it done.

I think that the yo is of lesser then the FHZ(and pretty much everything else duncan has made) The shape is weird. The main thing I don't like about it is the price. Not only does it make it so that you don't want to throw it freehand, but it makes it so that people like me can't buy one. Mine didn't have any problems with it. I just didn't like the way it played with duncan pads and such. This was the first duncan I actually had to mod to make it play the way I wanted it. 5/10

If at first you don't succeed, go ahead and secede!

i think 40 bucks is pretty reasonable for a full aluminum yo. i'd rather being throwiing one of these freehand then say, a mkII or barebones. i prolly shoulda picked one up at ecc but just had more things i was interested in at the time.
