Reply MaTrIxX..the yoyo that could have been more...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well well, I have had my MatrixX for at least 3 weeks now and it has been in heavy rotation since. Keep in mind it has been "competing" with my Eclipse.
First of all, I must say the shape and feel of this yoyo is pretty damn impressive. Although a bit light for my tastes, it has the perfect feel when doing some serious sessioning; After of course you fiddle with the string gap to get it just right for you, which may take 5 minutes or 3 days depending. ( I got mine and threw it down and went to get it back up from a sleeper and it just bounced up the string then fell right back down to the end of the string. It took me about 20 minutes to get it tuned to half way obey me.. )
As far as sleep times are concerned, just at a dead sleeper it can go for at least 45 seconds; however there seems to be a bit of a problem with "drag" when doing complex string tricks or combos. What I mean is just from the yoyo flying around doing summersaults and flips seems to cause the yo to slow down quite fast even to the point if you land it back to a trapeze a bind wont work cuz its spinning to slow, or it just tips sideways off the string.
I do like the fact that it has a pretty cool response system that keeps you yo-ing and not replacing friction stickers, however its a bit of a double edged sword since it seems to need alot of "fine tuning" thanks to the adjustable string gap ( which is nice, that said this is the only AGS yo Ive played with that hasnt had a "slip" in the halves ) and it seems to eat string quite quickly as well.
I cant seem to bring myself to rate this yoyo much more than a 7.5 out of ten...maybe even a 7, I think its because I was throwing and throwing my MatrixX, practicing some new tricks and brushing up on old ones. Then I reached into my pocket one night and only had my Eclipse so I started to throw that, and had no worries with response, or "drag" or well anything for that matter, It seemed like anything I could do with my MatrixX I could do better with my Eclipse...Or faster, or just easier..something. (My eclipse seems to love abuse so I can throw it hard and know it can handle it...the MatrixX seems to lack in that area..)
In short the MatrixX is a great yoyo for practicing advanced string tricks, it could possibly even be a great beginner yoyo if the gap stays pretty thin but it seems there is a bit of a higher learning curve with this yo. Personally I wouldnt compete with this yoyo it seems to be to "unpredictably consistent", yet it is hella fun to throw, like a really good toy..sure you can do alot with it, it just leaves you with this feeling that it could have been more...

Shape/Style: Butterfly/BallBearing,AGS
Response: Rubber O-ring
Sleep Time: 45 seconds +
Overall Rating: 7.5
*Notes* - Its not bad, It has its issues, but some ( such as myself ) may see it as a trade off when comparing it to other yoyos. And for 16.00 bucks its way affordable, at least to learn or even practice with.

The Matrixx is a great yo!!!
The shape is the most comfortable I've played. A great sleeper, well balanced, and it returns predictably (for me).
One small problem..... The colors and graphics are hideous!!! But its starting to grow on me!!!
The price is right on too! IMHO, the best yo for the 9/10 for playability, a 6/10 for appearance, and an 8.5/10 for feel!
If you don't have one... get one.
Have Fun!

i know what cold means about the response, if you adjust the yo for a wider gap it takes a bit of work(luck) to get it back up.my nightmoves is the same way.
as for colors, its the pogs that will make or break it in that department.i saw a yellow one w/ pokemon pogs that looked killer.
the orange and black combo turns a lot of heads too.

hey taur...Have you had any of those issues with the "drag" as I called it when throwing your MtX? Its really hard to explain what goes on...but I was just wondering if you were encountering the same issue....

drag like when it goes back up half way and sleeps then goes back down or dies?it also slows down a bit when i have too many layers of string in the gap.still its a good performer for me.
by the way takabrash,i didnt know you had an uncle into yoyoing.....

Glen... From what you're saying:
"when it goes back up half way and sleeps then goes back down or dies"
Is what I refer to as Slipping. There is not enough Response between the string and .. in this case.. the star burst and the o-ring. Sometimes they grab good and sometimes they don't.
It can happen with worn out Friction stickers also.

When I say drag I mean the WAY fas slow down in spin when doing tricks...It could be do to to many string layers but even when I do coldfusion by the time its back on the trapeze its practically dead...and with my clipse I can usually get a couple of Matrix's ( the trick ) in and maybe a buddahs revenge before the return to the hand....

ahhhh sooo ....
i dont seem to have the"'drag"problem with the matrixx.i notice it with my nightmoves and for some reason the nightmoves just looks like it spins slower regardless of the length of the spin.

Glen... Yes...I find it's a problem or situation that occurs with any yoyo that has Starbursts..

you kids dont realize what beauty is until you get a "Green Apple" Matrixx from Dave's Skill Toys... as for the yo-yo, I'm a beginner and when i do a split the atom using a skin the cat mount i often experience drag so badly that it chokes on the string and flys up to hit my finger (at the very begining when you loop that string under the yo to do the sumersaults) and that sucks...I've found it works best with tight string and the gap open just a bit (maybe a turn or so) but even then i wonder whether its as good as it could be...

p.s. I plan to buy a FH2 or Eclipse (both eventually) so we'll see which yo-yo will occupy my precious pocket space.

have fun!
