If you want a good all around yo(-yo) then let me suggest my preferred yo(-yo): SuperYos Renegade, by far it is one of the industries best yoyos and it is pretty cheap ( go here: www.yoyoguy.com ) They have a "3play" feature so they are take apart and you can set em to be an imperial style, butterfly or pagoda ( some type of sidestyle deal but it sucks so i never use it, in fact, I have yet to change either of my gades out of the butterfly ) They are very smooth I have gotten my gades to sleep for over a minute, then again I got 4 years of yoyo strength in my wrist, they dont have any "maintenence" type parts, but there are replacement kits for bearings and wieght rings. They also feature an adjustable string gap and use the starburst design for the yo to string friction. The only thing that is even that bad is the logo on the sides of the Gade usually wear off within a week of heavy play...but I think the silver lettering is kinda cheese anyways. These things also come in practically EVERY color you can think of from glow in the dark to marblized red....This yo(-yo) rocks for everything and loves abuse its probably the best all around yo(-yo) out there..I highly reccomend this yoyo to anyone looking to replace an used one or just starting out in the world of yo (unlike my TBBGT post in that other section...hah!)

My take on the superyo gade....its a bit expensive for a beginner and there are alot better ones out there for that price.

Umm.. I don't think it has an adjustable string gap (superyo intelligap axle system). The sheet that comes with the yo-yo that shows some tricks then talk about the intelligap system on the other side says something like "applies to all superyo! yo-yos except for the shape-changing superyo! renegade" (can't remember exactly because I lost the piece of paper)

As far as I knew the new gades with the octogon axle bolts ( not the star ) do have the adjustable string gap, that was one of the improvements with the new gades. As far as it being expensive for a beginner yoyo, in my location the beginner yoyos that are sold ( that are pretty crappy ) actually are the same price as a good old gade, so that was where my perspective was coming from..I just kind of see it as you need a good balanced yoyo so you are gonna pay a bit more, but learning tricks will be more effective than if you spend less and get a less than perfectly made yoyo.

Can you name some of these alternate Yos? I am really considering a renegade as a beginner. At $20 I thought it to be a top performer for the price. Based solely on online reviews and reputation.

I never heard that superyo is out of business. But as for alternative yoyo's, FH2, Dragonfly, Marix(I haven't played with it, but all the reviews are fantastic, SSCB.

I must make an ammendment from looking at my most recent Gade, I noticed that it does have the Star Nut. that is correct, it was the octogon nut that was a pain. Sorry...

My 'Gade is ok. I am not as impressed with it as i am my Matrixx. It's noisy and the string gets caught inbetween the bearing and side of the yo ( and yes it is all tightened as much as i dare without stripping the axle ). It sleeps well, got at least a 40 sec sleep ( with return to the hand ) and feels great to toss. But i'm not gonna sign it off just yet, i will clean the bearing first, and maybe mod it alittle. So if anyone has some 'Gade cleaning tips, i would love to hear them or just to be pointed in the direction of the info. Well there's my 2 cents.

well, you gotta take into account the fact that gades were first made, what, 4 years ago? so for a 4 year-old yoyo, i find them incredible. with a little skill, i can pull off pretty much anything on a gade that i can do on my best and newest, save for some insanely long combos involving lots of backspin and layering, which are difficult as is with the aforementioned best and newest yoyos. i still love my gade, though. it's one of those consistent 'feel-good' players and nice to have just because it was one of the first really excellent yoyos for single-A. even if it cant compete price-wise with some of the newer ones, i'd say get it anyway.

Yomarkable, does your gade have the octogon axle bolt? The string slipping down off the bearing was a big problem with the older gades ( ones with the octogon bolt ), they fixed that with the new gades, ( ones with the star bolt ). If you got one with a starbolt and it is still doin that then, uhh...well you gotta crappy gade....sorry man...

Yomarkable...
Thats really sad to hear about your gade. I actually will have my aqua-blue-glow-in-the-dark gade for a year come june, and it works as well as when i first pulled it out of the box, I use some yomega brain lube every other time I change the string ( usually ) or when it needs it. I still havent had any problems, I was just throwin my gade yesterday and found that with a string thats 6 months old it is more responsive then my eclipse with a 2 week old string. Heh...maybe I have just had good luck with my gades. As far as the string slipping problem, I suggesst taking the bearing and spacers out ( take the spacers off the bearing ) and then put switch the sides for the spacers; left spacer now goes to right half, right spacer put in left half. Lube the bearing on both sides and put some lube on the axle, then put the bearing on and tighten down 1/4 turn past the first resistance point or until the halves feel nice and "stuck in place" apply new string if you need to, and throw some good sleepers to work the lube through. Thats the best I can offer for anyone who is having trouble with their gades. Hopefully that will help...failing that, then I got no clue...

yeah both my gades have had one brass and one silver, my newest gade the brass spacer is the one that seems to be perpetually attached to the bearing.

One of the best yoyos i've ever played with.
It response so well... and it sleeps long!
It's somewhat smooth on the string.. just give it a little mod... and it's one of the best yos out there. Epecially with it's low price!
No wonder ppl liked this yoyo... so cheap and so plenty to mod. It's an old yoyo,... but it somehow compares to yoyos that are out today!
MOD IT! shave some friction off to make it super smooth.
I recommend this yoyo after TBBgt.

I have always want to own a Super Yo Renegade from reading the old review of them. But I want a black Gade and Mike put them up for sale at The Yo Store. What was really cool is you get a Kickin trick VCD with the yoyo.
The yoyo review:
The Gade is a awesome player right out of the box it the first yoyo I have purchased that did not have grease in the bearing .So it sleeps a long time so you can link quite a few trick right out of the box, it also returns with out a bind this yoyo has only starburst for reponse. The bearing spacers system is like the YYF 201 set up were the spacer are pressed in to the bearing,So you have less pieces to lose if it fly apart.I tried the pagoda shape it great for a good chuckle. But it does still has a balanced spins not off to one side like I thought it would. The gade is a solid yoyo it comes back in to your hand hard like a aluminum yoyo.I now have a Gade in my collection now and it's a keeper.
The video review:
I already own the VHS kickin trick video it a very cool video .
But the new VCD disc is a better you just pop it in your computer and you can pick the tricks you want to see or watch the whole video. You have the option to run it in slow motion so you can learn the tricks. It has 91 very hard tricks to do and show cases great yo players you have not seen ever or who have been in clip videos.I wish I knew the history behind the video shoot it looks like they just set up a camera at contest and let any of the players show off their stuff.
This all took place back in 1999 at the peek of the boom you get to see Doc pop with blue hair doing orginal tricks like washing machine and a top spin pick up balanced on his finger with Dobel yoyo like John Narum does .Steve Brown with a huge Mohawk showing off the birth of the grind on his thumb and I think a freehand trick.Bride doing a trick with 4 or 5 foot string. Rick Wyatt, Cappy,Higby,Jen Baybrook,Ben Mc phee it bassically a who's who of yoyo back then and now.It has Off string play, insane AA play you name it the disc has it. It is always good to some times take a step back in time and see what was the birth of some of the modern trick yoyo play you enjoy now. Or maybe you will see something say hey that a cool trick I think I will learn that.I know I want to learn Bucket of clay and other tricks. Now that I can slo mo it I can learn the trick.
I am done with my review maybe some of you players that cut your teeth on the gade or were in the video can add to my commentery.
Slow down, you move too fast
You've got to make the morning last
Just kickin' down the cobble stones
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy

yeah. An awesome yoyo. I found it sort of too responsive so I sanded down the starburst and cleaned the bearing and it plays awesome. It spins very long. Its one of my longest spinning yoyos.
I have the black version and the white version. both are good and if you remove the weight rings inside, and make the yoyo an imperial shape, its pretty good for 2A.
Awesome yo.
