    Little project from last summer.

As you can see I chose rock maple. It wobbles quite a bit.

Delrin is a good starting point. It's common name is acetal. I buy all of my plastic from www.onlinemetals.com

I doubt you'll have success though unless you have a lathe. But who knows?

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering, where can I get a hunk of polycarbonate or celion (is that how you spell it?).

Thank you everyone for the kind words. They are most appreciated.

Celcon(I believe this is what you meant) is the same plastic as Delrin. They are both different brand names for acetal.

Polycarb is usually molded, but I suppose you could turn it too, although I've never heard of someone doing that. If you do, post the results!

Cool. I didn't know celcon (that's what I meant) was delrin. I knew Polycarb is usually molded, I was wondering if anyone had done it.

Isn't polycarb what Landon Balk uses when he turns out clear yoyos?

Nope, he uses acrylic which is also known as polyacrylate.

It's about the same density as polycarb(it's a teeeensy bit less dense) I believe but has different other properties, like being a bit softer.

Acrylic is a bit cheaper than polycarbonate. Delrin is a bunch cheaper than both.

Really? Delrin is cheaper? Wow I would have thought it was more expensive. Huh, cool!

The machinable polycarb I've seen is very expensive. Buy what is cheapest; you will waste a bunch of it before you get any results.

2.25" diameter delrin bar stock is what I get. I usually get black Delrin because it is cheaper; it comes in the 2.25" diameter, while the natural color (white) comes only in 2" which is too small, and 2.375", which is too large.

Delrin is comparable in price to 6061 aluminum, which is the standard yoyo grade. It is slightly more expensive, but a lot easier to cut.
