Thread: Dark Magic 2 Bearing Troubles

Sup guys,

As you guys probably know already, the Dark Magic 2 comes with two different bearings. I mostly use the unresponsive bearing because it's awesome, but yesterday it started making a weird grinding sound and actually became more responsive than the responsive bearing The bearing is about 6 months old and I use it A LOT, so I was wondering if 6 months of hard use is about the average life span of that bearing or if it just needs a good cleaning/lubing.

It probably just needs a good cleaning/lubing. Most bearings should be able to last longer than that, they just need some maintenance every now and then. If cleaning/lubing doesn't help, you can try some additional measures before considering it a lost cause. Soaking it in vegetable oil and then cleaning it out sometimes helps, or cleaning it out with soap and water and an old tooth brush and then cleaning/lubing normally, or you can search on here for shield's bearing mod. Most of the time cleaning/lubing will get a bearing working better again, though.
