    What exactly are dif-pads?

I am going to purchase a Dif-E-Yo. I was really interested in the GTO-"F" but I don't have a clue how responsive Dif-Pads are. I see that the pads were raised out of the groove, which led me to beleive that these Dif-E-Yo's are responsive. I looked at the Tank, and the pads were flush in the groove.

That is where I was confused. The GTO says that pads are flush, but they are raised.

All current difeyos have a recessed pad area. There are thin and thick pads, the thick will be slightly above the surface when installed. They are good pads, last very long and are not overly responsive. If 2 pads are too responsive, use 1. If it's not enough use the thick ones to stand a bit above the surface.

Basically even a responsive difeyo is somewhat unresponsive by most definitions. It's really in the amount of lube in the bearing that makes the difference. A very lightly lubed bearing will be unresponsive even with 2 thick pads.

    Here's what he says: http://www.dif-e-yo.com/Dif-Pads.htm

    jhb speaks the gospel...

f series difs have been recessed to accept a flush thin dif pad response. previous to that, there was no recessed groove for the pads to sit in. they just sat on top of each inner yo yo half.

dif pads can be responsive at first, but they break in rather nicely. and over time, lose their responsive quality - unlike silicone (in most cases).

slick 6/8 is really the only string that works w/ dif pads, imho. other strings tend to slip after gettin' broke in.

gto is a great yo yo...you have made a great decision.
