Hey there.
I recently picked up yoyoing as a hobby about 2 months ago and I was looking around to see how I could make my Duncan Freehand Metal Zero better for more advanced tricks.
So far I've cleaned the bearing (about 3 times in 2 days thanks to the wrong lube from the sales person at Canadian Tire) and I've put flowable silicone (the stuff used to seal windows) in the sticker recess since I dislike the stickers and have no way to buy more.
So far when I has the friction stickers in it was totally unresponsive but did not bind very well. With the silicone it binds tightly but is sometimes responsive but always forms a knot.
I would like to know a way to make it completely unresponsive and any other mods that do not require expensive tools or materials.
I do have access to quite a few tools as my dad is a millwrite but I do not have a lathe.
I have a few pictures of what I've done so far (sorry for the bad quality, my iPhone's camera isn't that great):

Cleaning the bearing has the most effect on response. Then very light lube.

Thanks, but as I said before I have cleaned it and since I play with it dry now. I kinda like it better than with lube.
Can you believe the guy at Canadian Tire didn't even know what flowable silicone was and that they sold it? The guy sold me lithium grease when I asked for light bearing lube.

I don't think the recess is deep enough for flow-able silicone. I pretty sure that silicone will fall out in a few days. If you really want to use silicone you are going to have to make the recess deeper. I know you don't have a lathe but you can do a recess it a drill press. You will need to use a metal cutting drill bit and make sure that while you spin the press and cut the you use some kind of lube to keep the yoyo getting to hot, sparking, and stuff like that.

Thanks, I actually just scraped out that silicone because it was disintegrating.
I do have a drill press, but I don't know what method I should use to deepen the groove or the drill bit to use or how deep to make the recess in the first place.
Should I turn the yoyo as I am drilling it or would another method work better?

take those two smaller spacers and throw both dry bearings in there, thats a beefcake mod and it will be as unresponsive as your looking for. I use non flowable silicone in a similar yoyo and it hold fine , wears kinda quick but its fine, flowable falls out easier . if you dont want to make the recess deeper you might want to just gouge the recess a bit so it holds the silicone better.

That is what I did in mine and it worked great. Just to let you know for the future AnonAlum the FHMZ does not have as deep of a recess as the Metal Drifter. Different pads would be the best thing for this FHMZ, but if FireBurns wants to use silicone he is going need to deepen the recess. As far as a good method, mrcnja (http://theyo.com/yoyo/members/mrcnja/) on this forum had a good method drill-press recessing, so you may want to check with him FireBurns.

White litium is premium bearing lube,m if you want to re-pack a bearing. Bearing are used for a lot more than just yoyos, and most of the time you want them filled with lithium grease. Just not in a yoyo.So far I've cleaned the bearing (about 3 times in 2 days thanks to the wrong lube from the sales person at Canadian Tire
)
You cant expect the person at Canadian Tire to know about yoyos.
