Hey guys, I have a question about red rtv. I have only used flowable silicone where you apply it, wait 4 hours, remove any excess, then let it sit for another 20 hours to cure. Is the Red rtv applied the same way?
thanks,
Paul

yep, it is a little more tricking to apply since it doesn't "settle" like flowable but all the same steps and procedures are the same

Try to get off the excess before it dries.
It is a lot harder to get the red stuff off.

Yeah it is harder to work with, but I like it better than flowable for sure.
You apply it the same way, but you kind of have to over fill the groove to get the silicone down in the groove because you sometimes get air pockets that try and form (since it is thicker than flowable).
After that you take your leveling tool and level like always, I start with a note card to remove all excess and if any got on the body of the yoyo. Then I wipe remaining excess away with a paper towel or my finger, if there is still some on the body of the yoyo.
Then I move to the gift card with the rounded edge, and move it around the now flush silicone to recess it slightly. Remove and wipe card down with paper towel. Then have a couple more times at the silicone groove to make sure it is all level and clean looking.
Wipe anything that remains with a paper towel and set yoyo aside to dry. Once dry, you can use your finger or pointed tools (pocket knife, jeweler's screwdrivers, something pointed and plastic for those metals) to remove and silicone that may of escaped the paper towel and some that may of got into the bearing seat. Then set aside again to cure. I usually do this at night so when I awake I can play with my yoyos.
Red RTV just takes more practice to get good at applying it then that for flowable.

Flowable settles in the groove really nicely but it sound like it is going to take some practice to get the same result from the rtv.
Thanks everyone. I'll give it a go and see how I do.

Just an FYI all "room temp vulcanizing" silicones are RTV. Flowable is RTV.

What Icthus is getting at is that both clear flowable silicone and red Loctite are both RTV. Saying something is RTV simply means that it vulcanizes at room temperature. However, while both are RTVs, clear flowable and red loctite do have different properties. Perhaps we can just say "clear flowable" and "red loctite" or some such to get at the difference?
At least 15% of what I say is true.
