Not sure if anyone else has tried/posted this before, but here goes,
Basically I have a Duncan Mosquito (The new one) and after a week of intensive play naturally the stickers wore out.
I followed the poor man's sticker thread and instead of making new stickers I actually re-used the old stickers, cut and resized, applied contact adhesive on them, dried under the sun for a few hours then re-applied to my mozzie. It seemed to work. But still had some snag issues.
Then one day the stickers simply wouldn't stick on the yoyo any longer. I was bummed about having to make or buy new FS's, but I had a brainstorm. I figured I would try applying the CA DIRECTLY onto the mozzie's sticker area. Risky, but I've already got an FHZ, so a dead mozzie would be a minor loss.
So I just used an ice-cream stick and applied a THIN layer onto the mozzie's sitcker area. Let it dry under the sun for a few hours, then I tried playing it.
Here's the surprising part: It actually worked! The mozzie was able to bind REAL tight, and play completely unresponsive, like my friend's silliconed DM.
So far I've been playing it for a couple of weeks already, and the Adhesive hasn't worn out yet. I haven't tried any slack tricks or suicides cause I'm still technically a yoyo n00b (Started yo-yoing 6 months ago). I've searched and lurked around and I haven't seen anyone else do this before.
So, any thoughts?
P.S. The Mosquito is the new version w/ removable caps, no starburst. Mods done are Shield's Bearing mod and homemade weight rings on the inside.

Sounds like you have it set up nicely mate! I love squirrels so a weighted mozzie would be right on the mark ;)

Yup.

The weight ring was made with an old mouse cable. Managed to get a minute and a half sleeper (I cheated using the twisting method
.)

The contact adhesive I used is the rubbery kind, like tyre glue.

Oh, and thanks for the comments.
Edit: Let me know if you can't see the photos. I was lazy so I used facebook to upload.

Some additional "amendments" for those interested in trying this mod...
When applying a fresh coat of CA, use only a tiny bit, and spread with your FINGER. It seems that it helps keep the layer as thin as possible, and thus dries quickly. If any mistakes are done, don't panic. Use a needle to scrape out any excess that had got onto the shim area. Any CA on the wall or rim doesn't affect play as long as it isn't a thick layer. If it still wouldn't budge use a little shellac spirit on the tip of the tissue to wet the area and try again.
I notice when the CA is fresh the yo-yo is a bit responsive. But after breaking in the responsiveness quickly disappears.
I'd like to hear from anyone who tries this mod as well, and see how it works for you.

Definitely heard of people doing this before, but it's cool that you discovered it for yourself and thought enough of it to share with others who might not have heard of it before.
But I've never heard a Mosquito referred to as a Mozzie. Never even heard that word before. That's kind of funny to me.

That is a really good idea; I might have to see if that works on my old FH2. I do often revive dead FS by working molten hot glue into the surface with a rolling pin and the backing from a sheet of Avery label stickers, but I'd never thought of applying a thin shmear of stuff directly to the sticker area! I have some rubber cement, that ought to work just fine and dandy.
And in regards to alternative methods of response, I once used duct tape. I am totally serious. I built up enough layers of duct tape to fill a ridiculously deep sticker recess my beater FHZ had when I got it, cut it to size, and it worked! It felt sort of like a Dif-pad. I didn't use it for long, because eventually it would wear down to the adhesive on the first layer and that would be a mess, but when you're desperate that can work! I eventually just filled the recess with RTV and got it over with, but it was interesting. Hmm, makes you wonder what other household materials can be used for response in yoyos?
