i was wondering who here as used glow in the dark paint to paint a yoyo before and if so what paint would you recommended is the best for a very strong glow? also what is the cheapest glow in the dark paint you can find that glows quite well? where can i buy them online and in store?
my other question is about sili recessing FHZ and hayabusa i'm looking into buying a dremel to do it, would you guys say that this is an easy tool to use for this job for a novice, or maybe a drill press, which ever is cheaper and easier to use really. what kinds of tool bit would you recommend for this job?
also is it recommend to pad recess or silil recess a hayabusa, i guess its preference but i thought i'd ask.
thanks

What yoyo are you painting, I've heard that powder coating and painting leaves vibe. You should ask kyo about it. I think he knows what he's talking about.
I would also like to know about sili recessing a FHZ. I saw a youtube video of a guy having his yoyo on a drill in a vice. He used a screwdriver to carve out the recess but I don't think that would be very accurate.

I actually just painted my FHZ glow with some red and purple splotches, reminds me of a Picasso art piece. But I just used glow acrylic paint I got at a hobby store but it is expensive it was like $5 for a little 1/2 oz bottle or something like that..but it does glow pretty good, you just need apply multiple coats to get a strong glow. Also paint won't cause a vibe unless the paint is very uneven.
The Silicone recess can be done multiple ways, a lathe a dremel a drill/vice combo all can get the job done but it mostly relies on how good you are..
A silicone or pad recess in my opinion is a very good thing to do on duncan yoyos.

I guess it's just the metal yoyos that vibe. Also, I saw a bunch of painted FHZ and they're pretty sweet, so your right it shouldn't cause vibe.

No, those hobby stores' glow paint won't make a strong glow. Even if they're asking $5 for half an ounce. No, if you use thin even coats it won't make it vibe, but if you do thick chunky uneven layers of paint, then yeah probably.
Things that make it glow better:
- A undercoat of titanium white. Glow-in-the-dark stuff glows in all directions, not just out. A white backing reflects part of what's going in the wrong direction into going in the right direction. Makes a noticeable difference.
- Several thin coats of glow paint. Ideally you want two to four very thin layers (somewhere between 20 and 30 mils). Any thicker won't glow more, just uses more paint.
- A gloss clearcoat. Glow paint is kinda grainy and will pick up fingerprints and grime like you wouldn't believe. A clearcoat resists getting grimy and helps channel the light out.
Here's some glow paint that is actually good. It costs $9 for half an ounce, but you can easily do four yo-yos with that much. They've got other colors too, but the green has the brightest and longest lasting glow.

thanks for all the reply's, i will look in that that titanium white and gloss clear coat, could i get these at a hardware or hobby store? also what do you think about this site, their paint is a bit cheaper and you get an oz and a half each when you buy their sample pack for 36.95 which is 8 colours http://www.glonation.com/pigmented-glow-paint.html

also atomic cow you said between 20-30 mils, is that mm because that is 3 cm of paint on the yoyo? or is it just 2-3 mm of paint?

Its actually much easier than it seems. The accuracy is not an issue at all. Just make sure you're using a Jeweler's screwdriver, not a typical Phillips head. And make sure it's decently sharp. Also, don't cut so fast that you melt the bearing seat. It really sucks.

I found the powder, it glows in the dark. It is called luminophore. http://luminophore.org Is it the same paint that you use???

No, that's not a water-based paint. I only use water-based paints.
You probably don't want to deal with lacquer, especially with plastic yo-yos.
We're talking melting here.
