Any solutions for repairing cracked YYJ halves? I did a search and many items popped up, but not any solutions. I REALLY wanted another "clear" Mini-Mo. But I don't know about this one???
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

From the pix shown, I don't think it's any big deal. My blue HM has some similar crazing. I bought it from another guy here that way a couple of years ago. My guess is that quite a few YYJ yoyos have this. It plays fine. I'd just live with it if I were you.

It's fine like that until a ring falls off. Should be a while yet.

Hmm........until a ring falls off. Okay?? I was hoping that someone figured out a way to epoxy the thing or superglue the cracks without making them worse, or screwing up the balance?? I actually bought this yo for some "artwork", but I think I'll be better off keeping this as one of my beater pocket yos.
It plays fine......just looks, well....terrible!!

Nobody has figured out a workable fix for that yet. You could still get it decorated and put it on the shelf.

thats one of the worst YYJ cracks ive seen. it should be fine until you hit it on the ground, then it will most likely explode and lodge pieces of plastic in your eye

That's confidence inspiring. Especially considering the fact that I hit the ground more frequently than I care to admit ......
So I guess a thin layer of superglue painted around the cracks won't help things??

I think it's likely to make things worse. It's easy to unbalance a yo with glue, it's difficult to regain that balance. Some glues contain solvents that will cause the crack to worsen immediately.
Unless you've written it off as a player, I'd play it as it is. If you consider it worth little enough to risk destroying it, then by all means have fun attempting a repair. Win or lose, I'd love to have pics of the repair process and results in the Showcase forum.
If you find a way to repair that kind of damage, woo hoo! You will have solved a problem yoers have suffered for years. Bravo!
On the other hand, should you destroy the yo-yo, at least we'll know for sure one thing that definately doesn't work. That will advance the art of yo-yo repair, as we won't try it that way again.
I guess you can't really lose on this one. You either enjoy a yo-yo until the end of its' natural life, or you advance yo-yo science. What's not to like?

And if you break it, you could always use the rings for modding!

In addition to harvesting the o-rings, large bearing, and axle for spare parts too.

I'm not too sure about the possibilities in that, but it works pretty well with sealing up cracks in windshields (small round/jagged ones that is). Good luck if you attempt the repairs. It is better to have tried and failed miserably, then to never have tried at all!

I got this yo for a great price, so I don't sacrificing it in a effort to repair it. Does anyone know if the plastic is some kind of acrylic?? It looks similar to the orthodontic resin that I use on retainers?? If so, I can make a silicone stent, drill out the cracks in their entirety and refill them with clear orthodontic resin. Obviously this gets more difficult around the hub.
Then I could heat and pressure cure it to stablize the resin?? If I'm careful making the stent, the weight difference should be neglible??
I considered sending it to my denture lab for repair work, but I don't want the techs to think that I've finally lost my marbles.
Pics will be posted ..... even if I totally screw it up!!

You are a mad man Sherwin!!!! I love it....using your dentistry skills to repair a yoyo! I can't wait to see how this turns out.
It might be worth the sacrafice...but knowing how much you enjoy those Mini Mos...I'd say practice the repair on another cracked YYJ first. Personally, I'd just have the Mini Mo painted....or paint it myself as an experiment...and play with it until it desintigrated.
Good luck my friend!
