So after looking through my collection today, I came to a conclusion. BEAT UP YOYOS ARE A GOOD THING!!
I used to hate dinging my yos off the ground, wall, ceiling, ect. I would always think it threw diff after a collision and immediately switch yos lol. Although it doesn't look as fresh after, it shows that you practice your craft. Idk if it's just me but I can put a sctrach to a trick remember tricks I was learning or trying at the time it happened. I guess what I'm trying to say is.....STOP CRYING OVER SCRATCHES!!!! They represent the struggle lol

Indeed - at least those who stay around long enough. It's pretty funny, though, how surprised it seems most people at meets and contests are when they encounter a person who just genuinely doesn't care about dings.

Yeah, I heard Jrod actually throws his code 1 at people and then asks them to kick it back.

That's not exactly what happens ... most of the time, at least. What usually happens is that if I'm learning a new 5a trick and I happen to drop the yoyo in a way that results in it rolling toward someone, I'll ask them to just kick it back my way.

Quit causing trouble!

Whether I've done what you allege or not, battle scarred yoyos are pretty awesome in my book. Over time this yoyo began to spontaneously develop the "Hard Core" logo you see in the picture. I reckon it's just the universe's way of recognizing hard coreness.

Nice Code 2.
Love the "Hard Core!" That's just too funny.

I'd be surprised if Schnayke's 09 Severe isn't more banged up.

I dropped my popstar on concrete and had it roll into my pool while doing slippery eel, thing looks like crap, still spins true though. Love that thing to death. Besides that almost all my yoyos have atleast one ding in em, even my plastics, if it doesn't have a ding, I don't use it enough.

I'm a firm believer in this concept when it comes to dings, spurs and dents in a yoyo. It really does add a sense of personal value because 99% of the time it is YOU putting those dings in it which is sort of like a form of memory imprinting. I've been known to severely destroy yoyos, my main Bape Code1 is one of them and it has played even better then when it was mint.

Do can any of you tell which side your looking at by the placement of the dings? I know I can with some of mine.

That's pretty beat up. I've killed a few metal yoyos, though all involved a string snapping. I'd be very curious to know how many Steve Brown has killed. He's notorious for how rough he is on his yoyos.

I've played that MG. Jake, err, Eric, when you handed that to me, to do 5A with at 2009 Nationals, it was probably the surprise moment of the whole weekend.
Shortly after this occurrence, about a month later, I found myself back in Chico and at yoyo club. I dropped a GM2 in the alley behind Bird doing 5A. I got many looks.
Largely, I don't really care anymore. I find that there are still some yoyos I'd rather not damage, but, when it happens, I say a curse or two and keep on playing. That's about it.

After you've walked the dog with a >$200 yo-yo a few times, you finally start to relax as a player.
It's part of the process.
If you succeed in destroying someone's deeply entrenched beliefs using facts and logic, that person won't change his mind but will hate your guts forever.

Names eric not jake. ;) lol Yeah I remember you being like are you sure? lol
Yeah also I don't throw hard at all, I don't know what it is with how I throw I seem to get all the rpms other people get, but I hardly put any power into my throw, so a broken string wouldn't harm my yoyo much, and I haven't broke a string in many years. I even use my strings anywhere from 1 to 7 days.

Damn... Sorry about that one. I have the names of many players, many of whom I only see at contests once a year or so, swirling around in my mind.

This is my mg its worse now, been a year or two since I took this picture. I have a malleus about this bad, and two 09' severes. Its not easy to beat a yoyo into submission. I haven't really done it yet with a metal yoyo.
