Hey All!! I'm doing my 3rd metal, and I want something that just plain rocks. Something that can be picked up years from it's debut and still give that "man, this thing is awesome!" vibe.
It's going to be titanium, it's going to be smoooooth. There will be some killer anodized editions by Jason Wong. You'll love it.
I'm looking for your input on:
Diameter
Shape
Width
Weight
Hoping to have a preliminary 3D model in the next few weeks, but I need your help!
Thanks all!
Landon

I'd love to see something medium sized(low 50s), medium weight(mid 60s) with a Volume shape or something else H shaped.
Can't wait for this to be released! Sparking...here I come!

I'd love to see something in the 54-56mm range, with a 41-44mm width. The other recent Ti yoyos are all on the smaller side.
At least 15% of what I say is true.

Problem is that titanium is significantly heavier than aluminum, so they tend to end up on the small side.

If you succeed in destroying someone's deeply entrenched beliefs using facts and logic, that person won't change his mind but will hate your guts forever.

I know that it will be worth playing and buying.
What I want most out of a 3YO3 titanium is the opportunity to actually purchase one.
When I think of titanium yoyos, I get this weird feeling. This crappy, lottery type feeling. I got a Ti Walker through a connection. I could never have hoped to get one otherwise. Please make enough of these to satisfy the demand. Charge what you have to in order to achieve this.
Specs wise, something around 55-56mm diameter, 42-43mm width, 63-65g weight. Even weight distribution; not excessively rim or center weighted.
Other than that, I'm stoked to see what comes of this!

Right you are. But it can also be made with thinner walls. I think part of the issue, too, is that there's not a ton in the way of models to follow. Ti opens up possibilities for interesting (and potentially extreme) weight distributions, as well as yoyos with lighter over all weights that are just as rim weighted as their heavier aluminum cousins (as the Tiwalker was).

55-58mm Diam
42-44 width
lowest weight possible.
Smooth curved shape with all the weight distribution done on the inner hub
(think yyr but with a smooth curve rather than a sharp angle)
Low walls
Slim pad response (most things run off this now, works best in my opinion)
C bearing obviously.
I have pretty specific preferences, so it might not be best to follow mine haha.

I'm thinking curves. Everything is angled these days.
Besides, if you're going for timeless perfection, a curve shape is best. I have an Oxy iv and it still runs in circles around my other throws.
I like the idea of a 54mm dia, 42mm width, 65 gram titanium that is available. a smooth shape, like a kickside would be killer.
I think a float, relaxed type of play would be cool too. Simple curves, simple elegance, with out needing to be aggressive.Theyo.com: The Final Frontier. To boldly troll where no troll has trolled before...

Thanks for all the replies! Here's what I'm doing:
Putting everyone's input into an Excel spreadsheet. Then, I'll be taking the average of the 3 measurements. This will be what the first 3D rendering is made for.
The shape(s) that occur most often will be the designs inspiration. I'll post some pictures of the 3D render, and get more opinions, and change as necessary.
I'm really looking forward to this! For those that don't know, I graduate in December with a Bachelors in mechanical engineering. This is the first time I've used an extensive data collection approach to designing a yoyo. Totally something we've learned in several classes, I really think it's going to pay off & yield the best Ti throw ever made.
Cheers!3yo3 yoyos

Floaty, if it exists, is absolutely subjective. It depends on a player's tendencies more than it does yoyo design.
For example, one yoyo that word has been associated with for as long as I can remember, is the Peak. One person in the thread you linked me to said that CLYW yoyos (which, we can assume includes the Peak) are not floaty.
When I have more time and money than I do now (probably not going to happen) I'm going to invent a jet propelled yoyo that literally floats away when you're playing it. It will render the already unusable term floaty indisputably unusable except when describing the FloatKing2K (tentative name).
By all means though, please continue using the word as you like. These are just my poorly written thoughts on a very vague word.
Aaaaaanyway, Landon, I say you go with a tasteful V or classic shape on this guy. I feel like there are too many wacky yoyo designs around right now. I feel like we need to get sane again. A lot of yoyo halves these days could double as miniature Devo hats.

I lovelovelove my Tiwalker, and would like to see another Ti yoyo that makes good use of Titanium, because it has such a large profile and weighs less than 64 g. As for measurements, I'm thinking something like 54mm diam, 44mm width, 64 g weight, and a 4 mm gap. Overall, it would be nice and wide and really stupidly light. I also like the number 4. Also, would you be able to beadblast it so it could do grinds? The tiwalker is the best raw yoyo for grinding I've played with yet. What do you think?

Yeah, Ti Walker is a masterpiece. It's one of my favorite yoyos.
I would say specs similar to the Ti Walker would be an almost guaranteed win, but you know... Originality and all that.
I seem to recall hearing that bead blasting did nothing to Ti. Maybe I was misinformed. Can anybody clarify?
