Please NO flash animation...
Simple presentation is what makes a BBS forum attractive. The plethora of hi-res grapics images in sigs and avatars are more than enough to create a drag on bandwidth.

AC scraps his plans to make the first movie-length animated avatar

Those little moving emoticons are also animated. Can you get rid of them too?
Get rid of these icons? ---->
Not bead blasting at the moment. Sorry!

Atomic Cow, you are too sharp! I completely forgot about that option.
Maybe only let moderators have animated avatars? I do like Atomic Cow's avatar. Not bead blasting at the moment. Sorry!

If animated avatars were to be banned (which is dumb IMO), then nobody should be able to use them.

AC's avatar is merely a animated gif. Flash on the otherhand is usually quite big, which is evil for our dial up buddies. *CoughRicksCough*

what does it matter what file type it is, i thought there was a restriction on all pictures already via size in kb?

Read my post carefully. I said nothing about banning animated avatars. As someone noted there is already a size restriction on avatars and sig pix. I merely pointed out that the board does not need flash animations IMO. Most every board I see that has them is way slow, even on a direct internet connection. They add nothing to the information available here, and make life a bit tedious for us cromagnons still on dial up.
NovoMundum, If you win and we get world peace, what's to complain about.

How many people are on dial up these days? I would bet it is less than 20%

I'm sure it's alot more than 20%...cable and DSL isnt available everywhere, so alot of people have no other choice than dial-up...
