I am very proud to announce that there will be a Canadian National Yoyo Contest in Montreal, Quebec on June 6th.
For all of the information you need on the contest, check out our humble website : http://www.cncyy.webs.com/
This will be an AYYA sanctioned event. The contest is open to out of Country yoyoers, but only Canadian yoyoers will be able to qualify as Canadian champs. As a reminder you will need a passport to enter the country by land as of June 1st, 2009.
Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities in Canada and we can't wait to go see the sites. So grab your strings, your favourite yoyo and head out to Montreal June 6th to meet up and compete with (and against) some of Canada's top talented yoyoers.
I hope to meet you all there. If you need assistance to plan your trip to Montreal, let me know ...
IMPORTANT UPDATE : Due to popular demand and since the number of contestants is exceding our first expectations, the compulsories under the Championship division will be canceled. The contestants in the Champion division will now only compete in a 2 minute freestyle routine.

Quebec is still part of Canada? Whoa.

If you succeed in destroying someone's deeply entrenched beliefs using facts and logic, that person won't change his mind but will hate your guts forever.

CLYW, SPYY and G-strings are the reasons why we voted No at the last referendum.
That and the fact the other Canadians threathened us to take our hockey club away.

Regarding the Champion division compulsories, some players contacted me to let me know how they feel about them. Some want to keep them, some would want to only perform a freestyle, for various reasons. If you plan to compete in the Champion division, I would like to hear from you.
I will wait a week before I take a decision in order to let everyone voice their opinion; I wish the contest to be fair and fun for everyone.

I'm not going to the competition, but I think you shouldn't use compulsories. No other contests use them anymore, and they really aren't a good judge of someone's skill.

Compulsories do test someone's depth of skill. They're useful for weeding out the folks who can't be bothered to learn the basics.

I think trick list compulsories weed out good players on the basis of missing one old, lame trick, and generally make the contest much more tedious and boring. It's a dated system, and isn't much fun. I think 1 minute freestyle compulsories (or just go with no compulsories) will pretty much even out time wise, and be much more engaging for both participants and audience.
As a side note to my opinion, I've ran a contest, judged more than a handful, and competed in a couple of fistfuls.

The guy who wrote the book on yoyoing.

If you can do new stylish tricks well, it should be no problem for you to do the "old lame tricks". I think Ziggy Marley said it best, "If you don't know your past, you don't know your future."

If you succeed in destroying someone's deeply entrenched beliefs using facts and logic, that person won't change his mind but will hate your guts forever.
