opinion poll - Dark Magic, or the ProtoStar

So I'm thinking of getting a new yo. I've narrowed it down to the Dark Magic, or the Pro Star. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on which one they like better.

if you DO mean protostar.. that is what i prefer, although they are two very different yo-yos. the Dark Magic is very versatile, as it has an adjustable gap and can be made to play both responsive/unresponsive. the protostar is dead unresponsive and was designed for more advanced play.

both are great! but if unresponsive play is your thing, id go with the protostar

I've never thrown a Dark Magic, but I recently got a Protostar after throwing a Legacy for several months. I can't recommend the Protostar enough. It is as good as everybody says it is. Throwing my Legacy at this point is a big disappointment. You will get way more than your $s worth with the Protostar.

I haven't played with either yet but I think you should go for the Protostar. I've heard good things about It and nothing negative yet.

Hmm ... My answer really depends on your skill level, what sort of play you want, and which yoyos you already have. As Bennet pointed out, if you want a versatile yoyo that can play both responsive and unresponsive, then the Dark Magic for sure. If you want something totally unresponsive out of the box that's really only designed to unresponsive, then probably the Protostar. The sky is the limit with both, but they're very different yoyos.

Well, I certianly can't boast on my skill level. I've been throwing for about 5 months, pretty much every day as much as I can(I bring a yo to work),probably 2 hours a day or so. The tricks I'm trying to learn right now are Black Hops(@70% through), and Jade Whip(@2 in 10). The yo I throw most is a ShinWoo Zen 3, and I also have a couple of modded FHZ's, so I always bind return. I'm definitely leaning toward the Protostar.

I am right there with you as far experience and tricks go.
I'm sure a Dark Magic would be fine,
but a Protostar will make you freak with delight. Guarandangteed

I thrown both of them and I got to say protostar is better. Atleast for me it was... I hated DM, for some strange reason I didn't use it at all. In the other hand I loved protostar but I got amazing offer, mint sand blasted mayhem for protstar.. How can I say no to that? I miss mine

I have thrown both and would go with the protostar, the DM just feels too heavy and clumsy to me.

Oh dang!!! This yoyo is perfect!!! So smooth, perfect weight, all at the rim, sleeps FOREVER!!! I'm in love! The wife's gonna be upset, but she'll get over it... I hope. Needless to say, so far so good.
