Alright my brother decided to play Assassins creed on my computer, so he goes to open it up, and then I get a DSUB OUT OF RANGE THING. Now I can't do anything....so in frustration I just pushed lots of keys on the keyboard...Then my screen went to logging off and then back to the DSUB OUT OF RANGE thing. Ive turned off the power to the computer, unplugged plugs, but it doesn't matter, my computer just says DSUB OUT OF RANGE 75.0 kHZ / 60Hz. So yeah I can't do anything on my computer .....I'm using my moms laptop atm...

Your monitor frequency/resolution setting got reset.
Try changing the resolution, or see if you can start the last good config, (which may be the hosed one of course).
From some other place: It usually only happens when the refresh rate is set to above the specs, or res is above the specs.
How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature
To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps: 1. Start your computer.
    2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
    3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
    4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.
Or: If you can boot in safe mode you should be able to get to the config stuff to reset it.

I ran it in safe mode and did a system restore to the previous day, but its still giving me this error....

Either your monitor resolution is set too high or the settings in windows are wrong. See what your monitor is set at. Maybe it got set higher for the game.

Your monitor should have an adjustment panel/buttons.

Ive pressed the buttons on the side of the monitor, but I have no idea what im doing in that. I've tried auto set, but it doesn't work...just tells me the optimal screen resolution.

Can you restore it to the default settings? There's usually an on screen menu for the monitor.

What kind of monitor do you have?

    LG Flatron w2361vg

The only options I have on my monitor are

Button "FUN" :EZ Zooming, 4:3 IN WIDE, Photo Effect, Cinema mode, time control

Button "Menu": Picture, Color, Tracking, Setup

Button "F-Engine" :Movie, Demo, Normal, User, Internet

I also have a button "Source" which makes the screen go black for a couple seconds
and a button "Auto/Set" which , when i press it, says : "Processing Auto image adjustment
for optimal dislplay change resolution to 1920 x 1080"

Do you have the manual? Take a look at it.

The second button from the top is the MENU button. You may need to hold it in for 10 sec or so to unlock it.

    1. Press the MENU Button, then the main menu of the OSD appears.
    2. To access a control, use the ^ or <down> Buttons. When the icon you want
becomes highlighted, press the AUTO/SET Button.
    3. Use the ^/<down> Buttons to adjust the image to the desired level. Use the
AUTO/SET Button to select other sub-menu items.
Push the MENU Button once to return to the main menu to select another
function. Push the MENU Button twice to exit from the OSD.

One of the selections on on the DSUB/DVI menus is "factory reset"
(Press ^/<down> at the same time.)

Note, <down> is the opposite of ^, my keyboard doesn't have a <down> key

    The manual says:

Do you see an "OUT OF
    RANGE" message on
    the screen?
This message appears when the signal from the
PC (video card) is out of horizontal or vertical
frequency range of the display. See the
'Specifications' section of this manual and
    configure your display again.!

I turned the factory reset to yes and then tried to start windows normally, but I still have the DSUB OUT OF RANGE bolshevik.

I might have the manual lying about somewhere, have to look for it

I think the problem is fixed, ended up uninstalling my graphics card or driver or w/e.

Now I can log in normally, but I can't use the highest resolution that I used to use...that and i need to reinstall my graphics card...

Sounds like a plan. I saw reference to that in a number of forum postings for this problem.

Tell your brother not to do that again.

I wish I had made it here sooner, reinstall your graphics card drivers. Your refresh rate on your monitor should be dictated either by Windows' resolution settings or by your graphics card's program be it Catalyst or whatever it is Nvidia uses.

In that program should be a desktop area where you can change the refresh rate of your screen. Keep it at or less than 60Hz and you'll be golden.

Or for optimal use, look up the monitor you have and the refresh rates it supports. Set it to that :). Setting the refresh rate incorrectly can cause nasty graphics issues (see: above). Another artifact of having the incorrect refresh rate is screen tearing (ugh!).
