You can, but I wouldn't. Don't know if it's compatible with the plastic.

i was going to say that.

although, it is organic, so i don't think it would dissolve the plastic.

In my cubing day's i blasted mine with a little wd40. It worked fine, but smelled funny.

Did you take everything apart, or just spray it into the middle after taking of 1 piece?

I think I brain lubed one once. I must have used too much because the cube became a little oily, but it went away with use and tissues

How about a silicone lubricant the consistency petroleum jelly?

I just learned how to solve a 3x3 cube! I'm so happy.

I know. The question was, "Is it safe to use a silicone lubricant the thickness of petroleum jelly." The lubricant isn't petroleum jelly just the consistency of it.

I like to use a form of silicone lube. I've got it off eBay from puzzleproz with the name "cube lube." I wanna figure out what it really is and see if I can get it cheaper. I really like it, and it works very well.
I've heard jigaloo is good, but I wouldn't just spray it into the cube, I'd disassemble the cube and lightly spray every piece, that way I don't risk damaging the cube, like "melting" it together.
I wouldn't recommend WD-40. Do keep in mind that WD-40 is not a lube, it's a solvent. Used it for getting things unstuck and the like, but on a cube it's probably more likely to melt or damage the "cubies."
