ok so one of my "friends" (notice the quote marks) gave my email and msn name out to all these racist people. (if you want to know what they called me pm me about it) and now that they know my email they can hack my cpu and find all my passwords i use for any thing and everything, so if anything racist or mean comes out of me that is above and crossing the line it is not me. i promise theres nothing i can do about it now. if you understand this thanks. i promise nothing over the top or out of the ordinary (for me that is) will NEVER COME OUT OF ME.

It's very unlikely that someone could hack you're computer just using your email address...

Unless of course he uses his email address as a password....

If you do spout racist crap here, I will ban you for a week.
It's your responsibility to keep your password safe.

no offence but i dont think you guys know how hackers work
they get your email and once they get a hold of your email they get all your passwords and look at your history to see what you have done and where you have gone they go there. if you change your pasword they know, if you im someone, they know if you move your mouse they KNOW. so im screwed untill im under the radar.

Well, i say you visit a lot of sites about the government and catching hackers lol so if they do and they see where you have been it will scare the s*$t out of them, and they may lay off.

if they do not know your email password you are pretty safe if you change it to something like jhb said.

LOL thatz the best thing i've read all day...
i was/am a hacker (strictly white hat and have done work for other companies) and i do know how they work... i am currently working towards becoming a Certified Ethical Hacker ... now... we can't get int your computer by simply knowing your email... now if they have started an msn conversation with you that is a different story... there are dozens of ways to get into someones comp while you are chatting them up in IM...
unless you are using some really lame password like your name "password" or something MEGA easy they are not going to get your passwords and such by just knowing your email... yah there was that captcha hack awhile back... but it was done by mega geeks who eat sleep and breath bianary... the ppls your talking about don't sound like that
getting into an individuals computer intentionaly is not easy work... it's not hard to find some random IP addy floating around the web and then seeing if the computer connected to it has any open ports that could be exploited... but actually finding the IP address of a specific computer is more involved... which is were alot of hacker open up msn conversations and then will send you a cool picture or something whle typing command lines into there command prompt and watch your IP pop up right in the middle...
so just make sure your firewalls are up ....
don't ever start an im msn, aim"insert your perffered chat here" with someone you don't know...
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check the URL if you somehow get redirected to a page that asks you to log in...
if you are ever buying something on line make sure the page were you put in your credit card info has an https:// that means you are on a secure page...
change your passwords monthly and make them hard... atleast 10 characters long using; Numbers, letters, capitol letters, symbols and all other manner of trickery...
don't download games or files off sites you are not really familer with... it is so easy to bind a virus or a trojan or a keylogger to anything and you won't even know it's there...
and be stingy about how much info about yourself you make widely avalible... don't ever make personal info such as your phone number, address, etc. visable to the public... that is just asking for trouble...
oh no one is going to hack your CPU... seriously they are after data or destruction... they can write a program to fry your comp faster than they could to actually get in and harm the actual hardware...
and all that about moving your mouse and they know... NOT FREAKING TRUE... this is waht happens when the media trumps up the 1 or 2 bad (black hat) hackers that they find... no one is that advanced ... they aren't watching your screen...
i know some really great places were you can go to get info about how to protect your self PM me if you want them...
anywho feel free to PM me with questions...
yours truly

Hacker = changes a program to make work for them better, / explorers the Internet/computers, fixes problems (ethical/white hat)
Cracker = steals data, owns boxes and hires out their zombie cluster, harms data (unethical /black hat)
Scriddy (Script Kiddy) = Someone who PWNZ there friends/random peoples boxes for fun/attention. Generalized by they're lack of originality or skill.
Examples:
Hacker: "I found this website that had a security risk, so I contacted them and helped them fix it."
Cracker: "I found this website that had a security risk, so I exploited it to for my gain."
Scriddy: "lol, I fnd tis site dat cld b pwnd, so I pstd on 4chan, lol we ddos'd dem rofl"
You my friend, won't get owned be crackers... but by scriddies. Furthermore yes I do know crackers/hackers and just having an email address doesn't mean they can do anything besides read the content of your emails. So assuming you don't email yourself your IP, you should be ok. Change your password to "S0mEtH1Ng lIK3 7H15" and you won't need to worry to much. Also, you could install a firewall if you don't already have one.

the only thing you can do to be completely sure that they dont HACK your computer and totally ruin your life is pawn your computer or sell it to a "friend"...then it's their problem to worry about...
then you'll need to rip all of the coax and all of the telephone lines out of your house...this can be tricky and very time consuming but it's not a step that you can skip...otherwise, they'll have your phone lines tapped and be sending subliminal messages through every channel on your TV...which leads right into the next step...
you MUST make helmets out of aluminum foil for everyone in your house...not the cheap, no name brand either, it has to be Reynolds Wrap™ or else it wont work...they can penetrate right through that cheap crap...
then all you'll need to do is sacrifice 1 baby goat per day for a month to the Sun Gods and run around the outside of your house 37 times at the stroke of midnight screaming "THE NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME!" at the top of your lungs...
it's all smooth sailing from there...
relax dude, it's most likely a prank to make you uber paranoid and it's obviously working...take a precaution and change your passwords just in case, and dont forget to breathe...everything will be fine...
and if everything isnt fine, then there will just be a battle between the mods as to which one of us gets to lower the ban hammer on your head when you go skinhead on the boards...sounds like fun, eh?

I think you should have a very close, real friend make an email and new password for you. That way, maybe they can't see it. Or check you emails and PMs frequently and delete them when you're done. =\
