Hey Guys,
I am looking to get my first real MP3 player. I am definitely looking into getting either a 3rd gen Nano or an 80 gig classic. I am leaning towards the nano at this point. I have a small repertoire of music that seems to be growing. I would probably end up proffering the nano for cost and size but the classic for storage and an occasional video, although I could see them on the nano.
What do you guys think?

If you have 5 dollars and Chuck Norris has 5 dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you.

If you want thousands of songs, and plenty of movies/videos/pictures, go for the classic.
I you only have a couple hundred songs, and a few videos here and there, go for the nano.
I'd personally go for the classic just for the knowledge that I will have a full-sized mp3 (and more) player.

Yeah, the classic would be better if you wanna watch more vids because its got a slightly bigger screen
The nano if you want to carry something more compact around with only a couple hundred songs.Get Some

I was thinking that, I am really just getting into music and I feel like I would probably, in the life of the ipod for me, have about 1000 songs and a few videos.
Does anyone know if apple is looking into creating a 16 gig nano?If you have 5 dollars and Chuck Norris has 5 dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you.

If you're leaning toward a nano, I would go for one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Porta...2847744&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Porta...2847744&sr=8-1
They have a bigger screen than the nano, but they're a lot cheaper. If you're leaning toward the classic, just get one. They rock :)
Personally, I would just get the classic because you'll never fill it up. Keep in mind that videos take up a fair amount of space.

I wouldn't go with the zen Ethan mentioned, only because if you are using iTunes, you would have to export all your music to another program to put onto the device. (pretty much burning a ton of CD's, just to copy those CD's into a dedicated folder.) Plus, I'm sure some of the draw for you is to have an iPod, not just any ol' MP3 player. ;]
I've used dozens of different MP3 players, and by far, the iPod is the most worth while, simplest to use, and best looking. Good luck on your decision though!

I got an 8 gig nano and its way better than I imagined. I would have gotton a 2-gig but it doesn't come in black. :P

Why do you NEED to use itunes? There are plenty of other music services (rhapsody, amazon, etc) that will work fine. I'm not sure why you'd want to pay an extra 80 bucks for an 8 gig one. I meant to link to this zen BTW

That is why I said:
iTunes is very simple. That is the reason you NEED to use it. Haha, j/k ;D. I also enjoy the iPod interface a lot.
Rhapsody, requires a monthly fee. I'm not sure about the other services you are talking about, but iTunes is free, until you buy a song. *straying off topic slightly* I almost downloaded rhapsody, but it was only a 14-day trial, and as soon as that trial is up, they charge you $12.95, plus that same amount every month you keep it... lame.
Also, I used to have one (two...) of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Porta...2870357&sr=8-3
First one never even started, and the second one froze like crazy, so I returned it for a refund... And I got them from best buy, so they weren't used, and they still sucked. Haha. All Opinion however...

Rhapsody does not require a monthly fee. You can pay a monthly fee if you want and get unlimited music, but you can also use it like itunes and pay a buck a song. And the Zen has way less bugs than the V Plus.

There's really no reason to use iTunes if you don't have an iPod.
How big do the classics come in? Can they play FLAC? I'm at something like 27 gigs of lossless music, and that's really the deal breaker :/

The classic can't play FLAC, but if you must have FLAC, you should get a Cowon X5 if you could find one. Or if you also want to play video, I'd get a cowon a3

The TrekStor Vibez plays FLAC. Good player too; much better quality sound than a iPod.

I'm getting almost $250 for the TrekStor Vibez. Isn't that kind of steep? :[

Well if you want a player made somewhere else than China, you have to pay a bit of a premium. Besides making great sound isn't cheap you know.
You can get one used but minty on eBay for fairly cheap.

There's always the Cowon iAudio and Cowon series for high quality audio, too.

But between the Classic and the Nano, if you want a player that's going to be more rugged in terms of taking jostling (like if you want to jog, run, be active while using it) definitely go with the Nano (or anything that uses Flash based memory and not a hard drive).
